Village Projects:
Show Your Stripes

The Village’s Show Your Stripes campaign is intended to raise awareness of the Village designation by purchasing and installing flags, window decals, lighting or other visual features to be placed on participating businesses’ or organizations’ storefronts. While furthering the mandate and mission of the Village, these businesses and organizations also benefit by showing their support for the Village and their GLBT customers and clients, building loyalty.

In June of 2009, the first rainbow signage was installed: a set of wide rainbow window decals on the windows of the Second Cup on Bank and Somerset, and two large rainbow flags on Bridgehead Coffeehouse on the corner of Bank and Gilmour Streets. Since then, the number of flags, decals and other signage has grown considerably, more than tripling the number of flags since before the Village existed.

Rainbow flags, many purchased and installed by the Village, can be found on the following businesses within the Village:

  • Abiwin Co-op
  • AIDS Committee of Ottawa (3)
  • Biogenie/Knit Knackers
  • Bridgehead Coffeehouse—Bank and Gilmour (2)
  • b/side Wines and Small Plates (to be installed)
  • Centretown Citizens Ottawa Corporation: 415 Gilmour
  • Canadian Union of Postal Workers office—Bank and Lewis
  • Herb and Spice (hand-held flag at cash)
  • Inn on Somerset
  • One in Ten (2)
  • Pink Triangle Services (2)
  • Scottie’s Spot
  • Silver Snail (wind sock)
  • Venus Envy
  • Youth Services Bureau’s Young Men’s Emergency Drop-in
  • Wicked Wanda’s (Leather pride flag)
  • Wilde’s (5)

Wide rainbow decals have been installed in several locations in the Village and beyond, including:

  • After Stonewall
  • Gallery 101
  • Marrouch International Shwarma
  • One in Ten
  • Scottie’s Spot
  • Second Cup—Bank and Somerset
  • Silver Snail

Other rainbow signage in the Village includes:

  • Centretown Community Heatlh Centre/Gay Zone (mural including rainbow flag)
  • Staples (diversity mural to be installed in fall 2011, to include rainbow flag and GLBT people)
  • Stroked Ego (LED lighting)
